Highfire / Eoin Colfer

Highfire / Eoin Colfer

I was so excited about this book, I went to Kinokuniya three separate times in two different countries trying to get my hands on it. I eventually gave up and just ordered it online, and turns out I’m glad I did because I saved a bunch of money and while it was an okay read, it really wasn’t as amazing as I had hyped it up to be in my own head.

I’ve really been wanting to discover another urban fantasy that excites me as much as the Rivers of London series or the Dresden Files did, so when I heard about a funny adult fantasy from Eoin Colfer, I was super excited. I was expecting Robert Aspirin vibes, and…… that’s not quite what I got.

The story was alright, the characters were endearing after a couple of chapters, but on the whole I just wasn’t as enthralled as I’d hoped to be. It seems MGM has bought the rights to the book, and it is one that I think will translate well to screen, so fingers crossed for that!
